University of Thessaly

UTH is a University based in Central Greece with 36 Departments. UTH participates in EarthOne with the Department of Agriculture Crop Production and Rural Environment, and specifically with the Laboratory of Soil Science and the Laboratory of Pomology.

What's our role in Earthone?

UTH leads the experimental activity in which 6 pilots are conducted. With their expertise concerning soil quality and health, land use management, and sustainable production of fruit trees, UTH aims to help the project towards successful implementation for the restoration of soil health, ecosystem services, and for developing environmental activities towards climate neutrality.

Slovenian Forestry Institute

Slovenian Forestry Institute (Gozdarski inštitut Slovenije – GIS) is a public research institute with special focus on biodiversity, farming and co-natural forest ecosystems management, and its management in relation to climate change. Main areas of basic and applied research are forests and forest landscapes, forest ecosystems, wildlife ecology, hunting, forest management, and other uses of the resources and services forests provide. They provide scientific knowledge on all aspects of sustainable development, with the purpose of increasing knowledge and awareness of the importance of forests within the environment and the importance of forest management. In short, the Institute is a scientific, professional, and cultural storehouse for Slovenia’s relationship with its forests and the resources and services they provide.

AgFutura Technologies

AgFutura Technologies (AGFT) is a specialised advisory company operating in agriculture and food systems, integrating digital technologies such as precision agriculture, artificial intelligence (AI), and remote sensing. With a highly skilled team and a strong international network, AGFT plays a pivotal role in advancing modern food production and sustainable agricultural practices.

What's our role in Earthone?

In the EARTHONE project, AGFT contributes its expertise in digital agriculture, business modeling, piloting, incubation, and acceleration activities. Specifically, AGFT leads the piloting efforts in North Macedonia and plays a key role in Exploitation, Innovation Management & Replicability. This involvement ensures that EARTHONE’s solutions are effectively implemented, tested, and scaled, maximising their impact and applicability across different agricultural and environmental contexts.

Furthermore, AGFT supports tasks by contributing to the development of innovative digital tools and business models that enhance sustainability in land use and climate resilience strategies. Its role is crucial in bridging innovative technological advancements with practical, on-the-ground applications, ensuring that the project’s outputs are both technically robust and economically viable.

OIKON Ltd.

OIKON Ltd. – Institute of Applied Ecology is a leading licensed and accredited consulting company and research institute in the field of applied ecology in Croatia and the region, with over 27 years of experience. The institute provides expert services in nature and environmental protection, natural resource management, and sustainable development.

What's our role in Earthone?

As part of the EARTHONE project, OIKON plays a key role in developing innovative solutions for more sustainable land use and conducting field research in sensitive ecosystems. The institute leads the Croatian pilot initiative, focusing on wetland protection, field measurements, and ecosystem monitoring. Additionally, it contributes to the implementation of advanced methods for monitoring CO₂ and other GHG emissions, forest conservation, and enhancing the resilience of natural habitats.

Agenzia veneta per l'innovazione nel settore primario - Veneto Agricoltura

Veneto Agricoltura, the venetian Agency for innovation in the primary sector, was established on 28th November 2014. Veneto Agricoltura an instrumental body of the Veneto Region and gives its support to the Regional Committee as regards the policies on the matters of agriculture, forestry, agri-food and fishery. It operates in particular supporting applied research experimental trials, transfer of innovation and agricultural training. Activities (concerning agroforestry conservation, the development of aquaculture and fisheries, environmental protection, food safety, distribution of latest technical and scientific information) are performed throughout the region by means of Veneto Agricoltura’s experimental centres and pilot demonstration farms. Veneto Agricoltura works in order that economic benefits, environmental protection and respect for nature play an important part in the implementation of programs for the sustainable management of its territories. The Agency has its experimental agroforestry plants which allows it to collect and provide data and information on the effects of arboreal and agricultural plants on the soil.

DAFNAE - University of Padova

The DAFNAE was founded in 2012 and its mission is to promote the quality of human life, the competitiveness of the agri-food sector and the sustainable use of natural resources, biotic and abiotic, through the production and dissemination of knowledge on the management and improvement of plants, animals, microorganisms and soil for the production of quality food and biomass, ensuring the conservation of ecological systems, the protection of cultivated plants and preservation of the environment and biodiversity. The Department DAFNAE develops excellent research and teaching activities in several fields of the agricultural sciences, including the science and technology of plants, animals and microorganisms, crop and livestock management systems, environmental sustainability, food technology and agricultural biotechnology.

Hellenic Agricultural Organization "Dimitra", Institute of Industrial and Forage Crops

The main objective of ELGO-DIMITRA is to develop and support actions aimed at modernising and advancing the country’s agricultural sector.

The Institute of Industrial and Forage Crops is one of ELGO-DIMITRA’s 11 Research Institutes. Within this institute, the Soil and Water Resources Department conducts research on soil and water, focusing on maintaining and improving their quality to ensure they can fulfill their essential functions—particularly those related to sustainable agricultural production and environmental quality. As part of the Ministry of Agriculture, the institute also provides services to the agricultural sector, supporting agencies and directly assisting farmers.

What's our role in Earthone?

In the EARTHONE project, ELGO-DIMITRA is responsible for soil quality measurements and evaluation in the Greek pilot sites. This includes assessing the quality of apple orchards and croplands under agroforestry management in Mount Pelion. ELGO-DIMITRA also contributes to various tasks across the project’s work packages.

The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a world-class, non-profit research and educational institution with a strong scientific and technological orientation. It is a regional Center of Excellence, addressing issues of regional interest but of global significance, with an emphasis on cross-disciplinary research and international collaborations.

What's our role in Earthone?

In EARTHONE, scientists from CyI’s Climate and Atmosphere Research Center (CARE-C) primarily focus on applying regional climate models to evaluate the impacts of climate change on land use and the reciprocal effects. Special emphasis is placed on assessing the impact on extreme weather events that are relevant to the pilot case studies.

University of Bremen

The University of Bremen (UBREMEN) is a young medium-sized German university with around 20,000 students. UBREMEN offers a wide range of subjects with more than 100 master’s and bachelor’s programs. Since its establishment, the university has promoted interdisciplinary, explorative learning, and social relevance to practice-oriented project studies, which enjoy a high reputation in the academic world and business and industry. Within UBREMEN, the hosting Institute of Environmental Physics (IUP) is one of the leading European research institutions in space-based air quality and climate studies. IUP investigates the Physical and Chemical processes, which determine the behavior of the system comprising the Sun, the Earth, and its Atmosphere. Its overarching objective is to understand the mechanisms controlling the Earth System and its response to change. This goal requires the development and use of remote sensing techniques from the ground, ships, aircraft, satellite platforms, and in-situ measurements for process studies. Concepts, instruments, and algorithms for all components of such measurements have been developed at the institute, covering instrument design and calibration, data retrieval algorithms, radiative transfer calculations, measurements of absorption cross-sections, and reaction kinetics. The data are coupled with models to interpret the observations and improve the prediction of environmental changes.

EXUS Software

EXUS was founded with the vision to transform the costly and complex enterprise software industry – making it simple, accessible and exciting. What's our role in Earthone?

Within EARTHONE, EXUS develops a scenario building and exploration tool enabling users to explore future climate scenario outcomes and how they impact their specific areas. Further, customised recommendations will be provided to reduce the impacts of these effects.

SATEC Group is a Spanish multinational company which has established a complete end-to-end offer of technological solutions since 1988. SATEC specialises in developing and integrating ICT solutions for customers from many different sectors to improve several aspects of their business, including functionality and quality of services, efficiency and productivity, or user experience.

What's our role in Earthone?

SATEC has a large experience in data management and Big Data SW infrastructures and the main contribution to EARTHONE is the development of a multi-dimensional digital platform, named EarthOne Information Factory, to implement land use and climate management. SATEC also participates in several pilots, deploying the Information Factory and collecting, managing and processing  data and information of those pilots.

CEDARS Ltd.

CEDARS is a technical partner in charge of land-based monitoring equipment. CEDARS helps with selection, installation and maintenance of land based hardware for continuous monitoring of local climate, soil health and vegetation phenology.
