On 17 June 2026, EARTHONE participated in the AgroTech Hub Cluster webinar Innovations for Resilient Land Systems, organised to mark the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought.

The event brought together European research and innovation projects working on solutions to address soil degradation, water scarcity and desertification. Through social, technological and nature-based approaches, the participating projects explored how drylands and drought-affected regions can become more resilient.

The first session, Recognize & Respect, featured contributions from  TERRASAFE, MONALISA, LandShift, Nemesis, AfroGrow. The projects presented practical approaches including community composting, regenerative land use, soil health living labs, agroforestry, nature-based solutions and digital tools for sustainable land management.

EARTHONE was represented by Giancarlo Renella from the University of Padova, who presented how data-driven decision-making can support resilient land systems and help stakeholders respond to climate and land-use challenges.

The second session, Restore & Scale, took the form of a Café Talk moderated by Francesca Assennato from ISPRA/MONALISA and Ioannis Varvaris from the Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence/NEMESIS. The discussion focused on how individual innovations can be adapted, scaled and integrated into broader resilient land systems across different territories.

With more than 80 participants joining the live event, the webinar highlighted the strong interest in collaboration between complementary projects, disciplines and stakeholders to restore soils, strengthen communities and increase the resilience of European landscapes.
