New climate, soil and phenology sensors have been installed at the EARTHONE pilot in the Tablas de Daimiel National Park in Ciudad Real, Spain. The deployment was carried out by SATEC in collaboration with the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and marks the start of continuous field data collection at the site.
The sensors will record air temperature, humidity and precipitation, alongside soil moisture and temperature and changes in vegetation cycles, such as budding and flowering. These measurements will help assess the role of wetlands in the carbon balance and will be combined with satellite data, scientific models and laboratory results from EARTHONE’s six European pilots. The resulting datasets will support the development and validation of AI-based models for monitoring greenhouse gas emissions and removals under different land-use conditions.
