Researchers from Oikon Ltd. recently carried out field measurements and ecosystem monitoring in Lonjsko Polje Nature Park as part of Pilot 4 in Croatia within the EARTHONE project.

The activities focus on measuring greenhouse gas fluxes, including CO₂, and examining the condition of natural carbon sinks in wetland and moist habitats. Field observations also include soil health monitoring, biodiversity assessment, and land-use monitoring.

These measurements contribute to the project’s broader research on climate resilience and ecosystem functioning. As one of the most important wetland areas in Croatia, Lonjsko Polje plays a significant role in maintaining biodiversity and supporting natural processes relevant to climate change mitigation across Europe.
